Frequently Asked Questions
The Powell Metabolic Program focuses on overall health and well-being, using nutrition, corrective exercise, and one-on-one support and coaching. Our goal is to help each patient reduce pain and medications, lose weight, and increase strength and stamina. The program expands on the educational aspect of physical therapy, giving patients the tools they need to create lasting change in their lives, both physically and mentally.
We partner with Physical Therapists to put you in an environment where we can make you lighter and stronger. The therapist’s extensive experience and knowledge of the human body ensures your safety and success. While you are being treated for pain, you are also learning the habits that will transform you into a more capable and confident individual.
The goal of corrective exercise is to identify postural and movement imbalances, joint limitations, and develop a program to correct them. The focus is on movements designed to create balance, stability, and/or mobility in areas that are not functioning properly.
You will work with both the Physical Therapist and Metabolic Specialist. Each will play a role and be an important part of your success. Our Metabolic Specialists have been extensively trained and are corrective exercise and nutrition experts. They will be there with you every step of the way, giving you the support and coaching necessary to create lasting change.
Because we know how vital a solid nutritional foundation is for overall health, we strongly recommend participating in the nutrition part of the program. When you meet with your Metabolic Specialist, feel free to discuss your concerns and he or she will tailor a nutritional plan that you feel is manageable. Nutrition coaching is included with your services at no extra charge, and will help you achieve results much faster. If you’re still uncertain, we do accommodate individuals who only want to participate in the corrective exercise portion of the program.
We all know that restrictive diets are not sustainable for very long. Since one of our goals is to help you create a healthy pattern for living that you can maintain; our nutrition programs are not restrictive. We have multiple nutrition programs to meet all of our patients’ goals and needs. Our Metabolic Specialists will work one-on-one with you to determine your personalized nutrition program. If you try it and it’s hard to maintain, or you aren’t getting the results you want, let them know, and they will work with you to adjust it as needed.
We understand that most people aren’t training for a marathon or a bodybuilding competition, they just want to become lighter and stronger. Using a progressive exercise program, and based on your initial assessment, we will create a safe, effective exercise plan just for you. Our clinics are a safe, non-judgmental environment where we foster acceptance and teamwork.
To see optimum results we recommend 2-3 visits a week. However, we understand that cost, time, and travel can all be factors, so even 1 visit a week can be beneficial.
You can participate as long as your Doctor and Therapist deem the treatment is necessary and as long as your insurance will allow.
The program is offered at no cost to you beyond your Physical Therapy co-pay or deductible, if applicable. We do not bill you or your insurance for the program, it is a free service.
As long as you have pain or orthopedic issues your insurance will cover the cost of the Powell Metabolic Program through your Physical Therapy benefits.
We accept most major insurances, call your preferred location to see if they are contracted with your health plan.
